The Chalets

Ardwell Chalets are the perfect base for an affordable self-catering family holiday in beautiful South West Scotland. Dogs are welcome as we are pet friendly!

The chalets are in the tiny village of Ardwell on the shore of Luce Bay with stunning views across the bay to the Galloway Hills. Sandhead village with its lovely golden sandy beach, shop, post office, and a family-friendly pub selling excellent food is nearby.  The bustling little town of Stranraer close to the major Irish ferry ports is just 10 miles away.

Luce Bay is a renowned fishing location famous for its bass and tope so anglers can fish from the shore or sail deeper into the bay. Walkers can experience The Mull of Galloway Trail as the Chalets are positioned exactly halfway along the 26-mile path. South of the Chalets the path stretches 13 miles to the spectacular cliffs at Scotland's most southerly point with its lighthouse, visitor centre and scenic cafe. Work has started on a footpath round the whole 80 miles of the Rhins hammerhead peninsulas and will be completed in 2024, offering a perfect week’s walking holiday. For anyone wishing to spend a week walking this circular path we hope to offer a taxi service to take you to your start point and pick you up from your end point each day.

Self-Catering Chalets

The six Chalets built in 1974 were damaged by Storm Barra but we have bought new prefabricated lodges. All have a double bedroom, a second bedroom with twin beds, and a sofa bed in the living room meaning they can sleep six! We no longer have meters with pound coins; instead the energy bills come direct to us and this, along with inflation, has meant price increases. In addition, the electricity costs mean we do not intend to open between the start of November and the start of March 2024 except at Christmas and New Year.

They all have a television, cooker, fridge and heating.  Every one is equipped with duvets, pillows, cutlery, crockery, cooking and cleaning utensils —  everything you need for a great holiday. All have a double bed in the main bedroom, a second twin bedroom and a sofa bed in the living room so can sleep up to six.

In front of them is a grassy area where children and pets can run around and play safely or swim, paddle and explore the rock pools. All have a full length balcony to relax and take in the spectacular views. There is plenty of parking beside each chalet. Many people have barbecues on the shore, or meet up with friends at our neighbouring small caravan park. For more information on the caravan park ring Helen or John McFadzean on 01776 860294.
